Brrrr! January 2021 brought notably nippy weather to our Gulf Coast shores. Compared to the rest of the country though, sweater-wearing weather sure beats heavy parkas and icy streets any day. Even on the coolest days, the sun manages to shine through.
Time marches on, and once again February’s promise returns. The return of Valentine’s Day highlights the importance of expressing appreciation for significant others. Hugs, cards and more are exchanged. Love matters.
This month we’re also reminded to focus on the physical state of heart health in our community and nation. During February—known as Heart Month—the American Heart Association (AMA) spearheads a nationwide educational campaign about heart disease and stroke. Celebrations include AMA-sponsored National Wear Red Day, this year held on February 5.
It is gratifying to be part of a strong national movement making natural and holistic choices accessible to all, even more so during today’s extraordinarily challenging times. “Live a Heart-Healthy Lifestyle” (page 22) takes a deeper look at advances in heart health treatment being spearheaded by leading integrative cardiologists.
On another note, people are finding ways to address the ill effects of climate change in diverse and creative ways. “Saying ‘I Do’ to the Planet” (page 26) looks at innovative ways to embrace sustainability as a meaningful dimension of the wedding commitment. The possibilities for healthy change are limitless.
As always, with an open heart and an open mind, enjoy reading on.
