Letter From the Publisher
On the 10th of this month we celebrate "Mothers’ Day", a custom recognizing mothers and motherly-others who have nurtured and been there for us through thick and thin. In harmony with this tradition, this month’s Natural Awakenings has a particular focus on issues of Breast Health and Natural Birth. Esteemed journalist Lisa Marshall offers a thought-provoking article entitled "Rethinking Breast Health: Natural Ways to Keep Them Healthy" (page 26). It is a wonderfully proactive approach to the subject I know our readers will appreciate.
May is National Bike Month, a welcome reminder of the many advantages of bicycling - for fun, fitness and as an eco-friendly and sensible means of transportation. The League of American Bicyclists (LAB) is one of several organizations advocating on behalf of a "bicycle-friendly America," coast to coast.
In my travels throughout the Bay Area, I see ever growing indications of bicycle-friendly consciousness. It makes so much sense, especially here, in an area blessed with gorgeous tropical weather, flat scenic land, and nature parks. There are the health/eco/pocketbook-friendly aspects to consider as well. All in all, pretty good arguments for upgrading awareness of people-powered conveyances.
Memorial Day is also celebrated this month on the 25th. This time honored tradition acknowledges the many men and women who have served, and are serving, in our nations military. As always, open your mind and read on.
