It’s back-to-school time again in Tampa Bay and this August issue of Natural Awakenings offers valuable insight on ways to help our children get a healthy head start on the season ahead.
Our "Healthy Kids" feature this month gives us some super strategies for keeping kids healthy and bolstering their immune systems. In "Improving Immunity: Natural Ways to Keep Kids Well" (page 32), writer Kathleen Barnes covers the gamut in terms of healthy basics. She delves into such important issues as managing stress, select supplements for children, daily exercise as a key component of a health regimen, wide ranging dietary considerations, and more. She even includes a delicious sounding recipe for Kale Crisps kids are sure to love.
Author Clint Kelly’s article, "Come Back to Your Senses: A Childlike Spirit Shows the Way" (page 31), is an inspiring reminder of the many unique and creative ways kids comprehend the world around them. This is a refreshing read and an excellent way to fine tune our own connections to the many wonders we may fail to fully appreciate as we go about our busy lives.
In our "wisewords" feature this month, NA publisher Meredith Montgomery talks with clinical psychologist and author Wendy Mogel, Ph.D., uncovering some remarkable insights on ways "Balance Blesses Our Youth," (page 38). In this article Mogel shares some of the rich assortment of practical parenting advices featured in her books, The Blessing of a Skinned Knee and The Blessing of a B Minus.
