This class is an introduction to what is ultimately a lifelong journey of learning.

Taoism is a Chinese philosophical tradition that emphasizes living in harmony with nature, simplicity, and effortless action (Wu Wei). At its core, Taoism seeks balance, inner peace, and personal evolution, encouraging individuals to align with the natural flow of life. By cultivating harmony within ourselves, we contribute to the well-being of the world around us—physically, mentally, and metaphysically.
In this workshop, you will explore key Taoist principles and concepts, including:
- Personal Reflection: What brings you to today’s class? What do you already know about Taoism?
- What is Taoism? Understanding it as a philosophy rather than a religion
- Influential Figures & Sacred Texts: Laozi and the Tao Te Ching and Fu Xi and the I Ching
- The Nature of Energy & Its Application
- Core Taoist Principles: Tao, Wu Wei, Yin-Yang, Ziran (natural spontaneity)
- Balance vs. Harmony: Understanding Equilibrium in Life
- Taoism & Buddhism: Their similarities and differences
- The Taoist Perspective: The "Sky Mentality"—acknowledgment, acceptance, and adaptation
- Taoist Practices: Meditation in movement, including Qi Gong, Tai Chi, and Ba Gua
This class is an introduction to what is ultimately a lifelong journey of learning. Taoist wisdom is best understood through shared experience and community rather than isolated study.
