This June issue of Natural Awakenings Tampa Bay is brimming with insight from experts throughout today’s natural health movement. With Father’s Day on the calendar, we’ve also featured articles of particular interest to the guys in our lives. Of course, we benefit from all reminders to take care of and cherish our selves. American entrepreneur, author and motivational speaker Jim Rohn succinctly paraphrased it when he advised people, “Take care of your body. It’s the only place you have to live.”
I was moved to the max by my visit last month to Middleton, Wisconsin. It’s always good to get together with family, but the further significance in this year’s gathering was the celebration of my grandfather Donald R. Harrop’s 100th birthday. That’s a long stretch of time to live, love, be happy, and evolve.
Grandmother Veronica passed away at 99 years of age in March. She and Grandpa were together 80 years. That’s a loss touching depths I cannot even imagine.
Grandpa continues on with dignity, a robustness found in younger men, and his trademark unique sense of humor. When I asked Grandpa to name three things contributing to his longevity, he quipped, “Good brandy and lots of sex!” When I asked if there was anything else worth mentioning, his response was an emphatic “Nope!” Life is precious no matter where we are on the journey. Robust, life affirming, natural healing is a way to enhance the experience, at any age. In “Break Free of Chronic Pain” (page 26), author Kathleen Barnes examines emerging, and re-emerging, holistic trends that are positively affecting the health and well being of people and communities today. Also see the “Yogic Breathing Brings Relief” brief on page 27 for simple, step-by-step guidelines for experiencing an ancient breathing practice to its fullest.
With this issue, we welcome another gorgeous June in Tampa Bay, with its perfect beach weather, refreshing tropical storm fronts, and the faithful return of the Summer Solstice. Let’s make the most of it all.
As always, open your mind and read on.
